Amreen, a 20-year-old daughter of motor mechanic from East Delhi in a family of 7 members learn about our centre from various sources as our learning centre continues to provide value education to children, who come for non-formal background. In our centre children are not only taught different skills but in current tech savvy world they are also exposed to computers world. With the help of our centre, Amreen is today working as computer teacher in a private institute. The teachers in our centre use the forum to inculcate certain values, appraise students about health and hygiene, good manners, importance of punctuality etc. which are helping them getting better job opportunities.
Alisha is a 19-year-old girl from by lanes of Mandawali area in East Delhi. Her father is a carpenter. Her family comprises of 5 members. She contacted our centre through our promotional program. Our centre provides remedial education to the children residing in nearby slums, as well as vocational training to people, especially the women/girls residing in the community. Alisha after our course is doing typing Job in a company nearby. She believes that her social and economic life has become better. She now lives with new hope for herself and for her community.
Ankit is an 18-year-old boy from East Delhi. His father is working as a driver with total 5 members in his family. No idea what to do in his life, no future planning just a school pass out roaming around with his friends in Delhi, one day he came to our contact through our other social work initiative. Our Centre aims to identify and bridge existing learning gaps, further widened by the growing digital divide. We aim to share our knowledge in providing affordable technological knowledge to students from low-income communities. Ankit benefited through our centre is now working as helper in a nearby cyber cafe, earning for his future studies.
Simran is a 18 years old girl from Mandawali area of East Delhi. Her father works in a garment shop. She belonged to a joint family with total 5 members in the family. She had to depend on others for recommendation to get a earning job which is an embarrassment situation for her. She began to educate herself by attending our computer classes which gave young women like her the possibility of obtaining employment in the field. She reported that after getting trained in computer skills, there has been an increase in her self-confidence. She has also been able to overcome the element of shyness and embarrassment. She is now working as on the job trainee in some computer classes.
Kumkum, a 22 years old girl belongs to a poor labor family of 5 members from a slum area in East Delhi. Her father is a plumber. In the slum areas, the girls in the family are treated with a hostile attitude of discrimination. She was doing small stitching jobs at home. When asked she said that it was her desire to learn professional tailoring and get decent employment. She joined our tailoring and stitching classes. It helped her to earn decent money and in future to get placement in different small-scale units or to start self-employment unit with local resources..
Geeta aged 32, lives with her husband in a family of 5 members in Mandawali area of East Delhi. Her husband is working as stitching machine mechanic. The family size is large, hard to survive in a city like Delhi without more than one earning member. Words like social and financial empowerment are foreign to her. She came to us through her husband as he is a stitching machine mechanic. Now she is earning handsome money with the help of her tailoring and stitching skills..
An 18-year-old girl from East Delhi, living in a family of 6 members with limited income sources found a job as a house maid but was not happy with the job, loses confidence in herself. She decided to join tailoring and stitching classes in the evening. It also helped her gaining confidence. She is now more open, confident and without any fear. The encouraging part is that now she had aspirations for herself and clarity about what she wanted and how she would overcome the obstacles in life. She is now earning doing stitching work from home.
Seema had studied up to class VII. During pandemic their financial conditions worsened. They lived in an atmosphere of fear, stress and conflict. Family had no freedom, mobility and their voice was not heard as they were only a low class family of daily wage laborer. She contacted our NGO and with little efforts and training, she started making masks during the pandemic from home. This helped her earning decent amount of money to take care of her financial problems.
