For many women in marginalized communities, financial independence feels like a distant dream. Traditional barriers—lack of formal education, household responsibilities, and limited access to resources—often keep them confined to cycles of dependency.
At the Shanti Devi Mittal Foundation (SKETS Hope Centre), we believe that the most effective way to break these cycles is through the power of “monetizable skills.” By providing free vocational training, we are helping women transform from homemakers to breadwinners.

The Power of "Monetizable" Skills
Skill training is more than just learning a craft; it is about economic agency. Our foundation focuses on practical, high-demand skills that allow women to enter the workforce or start their own micro-enterprises. At our East Delhi center, we offer intensive six-month courses in:
- Tailoring & Stitching: Turning a traditional skill into a professional trade, allowing women to work for export houses or start their own boutique services from home.
- Beauty Culture: Equipping women with the expertise to work in the booming wellness industry or operate as independent makeup artists and beauticians.
- Computer Literacy: Opening doors to administrative roles and the digital economy, ensuring that women are not left behind in an increasingly tech-driven world.
Beyond the Income: The Ripple Effect of Independence
When a woman becomes financially independent, the impact radiates through her entire family and community:
- Increased Decision-Making Power: Financial contribution naturally leads to a greater say in household decisions, from healthcare to the education of her children.
- Investment in the Next Generation: Statistics consistently show that women invest a higher portion of their earnings back into their children’s nutrition and schooling. Empowering one mother often means securing the future of three children.
- Dignity and Self-Worth: Transitioning from a state of dependency to one of self-reliance builds immense self-esteem. Our trainees at the SKETS Hope Centre don’t just walk away with a certificate; they walk away with a new sense of identity.
Creating a Supportive Ecosystem
We recognize that for many women, the journey to the classroom is difficult. That is why the Shanti Devi Mittal Foundation provides these courses entirely free of cost. By removing the “monetary factor,” we ensure that even the most underprivileged women have a seat at the table.
During the pandemic, we saw this empowerment in action as women from our tailoring center were employed to create over 50,000 masks, providing them with essential income during a global crisis while serving the community.

A Call to Action: Support the Movement
Financial independence is the cornerstone of women’s empowerment. Every time a woman masters a new skill, a glass ceiling is shattered.
At Shanti Devi Mittal Foundation, we are proud to be the catalyst for this change. We invite you to join us in this mission—whether by supporting our programs or sharing the stories of these resilient women. Together, we can build a society where every woman has the tools to craft her own destiny.
